A Red Springs man was killed late Tuesday while walking on Interstate 74 near Maxton, the Highway Patrol said.

According to a report filed by Trooper J.J. Jones,the accident happened about 11:50 p.m. near the overpass of N.C. 71.

Cedrick Lionel Galbreath , 27, of 104 Malpass Ave., was walking east in the inside eastbound lane when he was hit by a 2004 Honda minivan driven by Denotra Powell, 29, of Crescent Street in Lumberton, the report said.

Galbreath was walking in the middle of the road, the report said, and was wearing dark-colored clothing.

Authorities said the minivan's driver will not be charged.
