Mr. Burns was born in Lake County, IL on January 8, 1953. Ricky was employed with Burlington Industries in Raeford from the 1980’s to the early 90’s as a supervisor and also a car salesman with Baker Chevrolet and Bleeker GMC in Red Springs. Ricky’s greatest accomplishment was graduating with Honor’s from Robeson Community College earning his associates degree in Information Technology. After graduation he worked with the Department of Corrections teaching computer skills to the inmates.
He was currently employed with Robeson Community College as a computer instructor.
Survivors include one daughter, Alisha Strickland Wilcox and her husband Darell of Lumberton; his father and mother Grady and Betty Burns of Red Springs; two sister: Brenda Burns Johnson and her husband Gary of Laurel Hill and Lori Burns Steele and her husband Anthony of Fayetteville; one grandson, Matt Wilcox of Lumberton; one granddaughter Kaitlyn Brooks of Lumberton; one special niece, Mindy Burns Coles of Goldsboro; and many other nieces and nephews and other relatives.
The funeral was on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel in Red Springs with Reverend Bradley Boberg officiated. Burial was in the Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church, Ammons Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 166 Red Springs, NC 28377






Burns was in my graduating class and a good friend. I appreciate that I could read about his wonderful life, and I am sad at his passing.
