The Red Springs and Northern Foundation’s fall schedule includes round-trip rides in October from Red Springs to Parkton.
Two round trips will be offered on Oct. 6 and again on Oct. 20. The schedule for both days will have the train leaving Red Springs on the first trip at 10 a.m., arriving in Parkton at 11:15 a.m. leaving Parkton at 12:15 p.m., and arriving back in Red Springs at 1:30 p.m.
On the second trip, the train will depart at 2 p.m., arrive in Parkton at 3:15 p.m., leave Parkton at 4 p.m., and arrive in Red Springs at 5:15 p.m.
Rain dates will be Oct. 7 and 21.
The ride offers a chance to enjoy the forests, farms, and bogs while riding on open-air cars once used to transport railroad track workers by the nation’s railroads.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children from 5 to 12 years old.
Tickets go on sale Sept. 1, and can be purchased by calling 910-285-6242 from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets must be prepaid by cash, check or money order, and can be picked up at the ticket booth in Red Springs prior to boarding the train. Credit cards are not accepted.
Riders are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to their train departure time.
Rest room facilities will be available in Red Springs and Parkton.
Food, drinks and souvenirs will be available at the depot in Parkton.
The foundation is planning Halloween Fright Train rides in Parkton on Oct. 26 and 27.
Proceeds from these events are used for the foundation’s continued efforts in education of rail safety and preservation.
