Youth groups from three local churches are selling corn again this summer to raise money that will send them to a Christian camp.
Young people from First Baptist, Trinity United Methodist and Red Springs Presbyterian churches are working together in Mrs. Grace Shook’s front yard on Fourth Avenue. Their hearts are set on going to Passport Camp at Wingate University.
Sarah Boberg said David Shook helps the youth groups plan the event that has taken place for several years, and several area farmers graciously supply the corn for them to sell.
On Monday, she said, a farmer from Gray’s Creek heard about their endeavor, and contributed a load of corn.
Corn in the shuck is $3 for a dozen ears. If the youth shuck the corn, it is $4 for a dozen. The dozen, Boberg said, is actually 13 ears – a baker’s dozen.
The money earned from the sales of corn will pay half the cost for the youth groups to attend camp. Their parents pay the other half of the cost.
The remainder of the money that they raise will be used to pay for gas, snacks and meals.
