LUMBERTON — Ever watched an election unfold and had the urge to pull out your hair? Ever wanted to do physical damage to the process as a whole?
Well, rather than enduring the pain, and baldness, why not let the political experts at Slate and the comedians of The Second City do it for you?
On Thursday, a collaboration of online political magazine Slate and renowned comedy theatre, The Second City, will perform a nonpartisan, election-themed political comedy show “Unelectable You” at The Givens Performing Arts Center at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
The 90-minute show is a fast-paced combination of sketch, improv, music and multi-media taking a hard-hitting look at the nation’s election process.
“We ask how we got to this atmosphere of animosity. How we got to the crazy election cycle,” says cast member Tien Tran. “The show is for everyone who loves politics and anyone who hates politics.”
As well as the comedians from The Second City, the show will feature guests from inside the political bubble. Guests have included CBS News host John Dickerson, Slate contributors and campaign staffers.
“Unelectable You: The Second City’s Completely Unbiased Political Revue” examines all sides of the political debate, all aspects of the process, and looks to question how, as a nation, we decide who to elect.
“Come very open-minded,” Tran said. “You’ll leave feeling celebrated for your views and also pushed on your views.”
