The board of education and Red Springs City Schools made an announcement that school libraries would be open on Tuesdays for the remainder of the summer.

The cucumber market, sponsored by the Red Springs Farmers’ Cooperative, closed for the season. The market closed about a week earlier than planned because a market could not be found for local cukes. Buyers had reportedly bought a lot of cucumbers from New Jersey farmers, and there was a bumper crop reported across the nation.

Mayor E.H. Alexander told town commissioners that some changes would have to be made if Red Springs were going to progress and grow. Alexander asked commissioners to give serious consideration to two specific changes - extending the city limits and charging residents a sewer fee. The mayor said he knew such changes would bring much criticism to himself and to the board, but Alexander said both he and the commissioners should be more concerned about the good of Red Springs than they were about their re-election.
